Getting started

Where is NeraSnap after I open it?

NeraSnap lives in the macOS menu bar and does not show a Dock icon. Click its menu bar icon to capture, record, open history or change settings. Requires macOS 15 or later.

How do I take my first screenshot?

Open the NeraSnap menu and choose a region, window or display capture. For a region, drag to select the area. In the editor, add arrows, shapes, highlights or text, then copy, save or share the image. Use delayed capture for menus that need a moment to appear; Repeat Last Capture reuses the previous region.

Can I skip the editor after a capture?

Yes. In settings, choose to show a thumbnail after each capture instead of the editor. Drag the thumbnail straight into a chat, ticket or document, or click it to open the editor.

Screen capture is unavailable or blank

Open System Settings → Privacy & Security → Screen & System Audio Recording, enable NeraSnap and reopen it if macOS asks. Some protected content (for example, DRM video) cannot be captured. If other content also fails, email your macOS version and capture mode.

A keyboard shortcut does not work

Check NeraSnap's shortcut settings and try the same command from the menu. Another app or macOS may already use the combination — choose a different one.

Editing and recordings

Can I edit annotations after saving?

Annotations stay editable while the image is open in the editor, with undo and redo covering annotations and image edits together. Exported images and history entries are flattened: arrows and text become part of the pixels.

Is blur safe for passwords and personal data?

Blur and spotlight are visual tools. For confidential details, cover the information fully with a filled rectangle and inspect the exported image before sharing.

What does Blur Personal Data find?

With Pro, Blur Personal Data recognizes the text in the image on your Mac and blurs emails, phone numbers, links with identifiers, card numbers, IBANs, IP addresses and key-like tokens in one undoable step. Recognition can miss text that is small, stylized or low-contrast, so always check the result before sharing.

How do I record microphone or system audio?

Audio is free. Enable the sources you want in the recording options before you start. For the microphone, select the input and allow Microphone access when macOS asks.

Why does NeraSnap ask for Input Monitoring?

Only when you turn on the Pro option to show pressed shortcuts in a recording. NeraSnap then listens, without changing your input, and shows shortcuts such as ⌘C and keys such as Return or the arrows. Plain typing and password fields are never shown, and nothing is stored or sent. You can turn the option off or revoke access in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Input Monitoring.

How do I shorten a recording or make a GIF?

Open the recording in the player. Trimming the start or end and saving the MP4 is free. With Pro, remove ranges from the middle, crop the frame and export compressed MP4, HEVC or GIF. MP4 H.264 is the most compatible choice.

How does scrolling capture work?

Scrolling capture is a Pro feature. Select the area and scroll the content manually at a steady pace, keeping the window in place. Animations, sticky headers or very fast scrolling can affect stitching.

See the Free & Pro comparison. Pro is a one-time in-app purchase with no subscription.

How do I restore my Pro purchase?

Sign in to the App Store with the Apple Account used for the purchase, choose “Unlock NeraSnap Pro…” in the NeraSnap menu and click Restore Purchase. An internet connection is required to verify it. If it fails, email the app version, macOS version and the error text.

How does the seven-day trial work?

When offered, the trial is a free App Store item started from the “Unlock NeraSnap Pro…” window. Seven days run from the original trial transaction; restoring does not restart it. Afterwards Free features remain, and there is no automatic charge — Pro is a separate purchase.

How do I request a refund?

Purchases are handled by Apple. Request a refund at reportaproblem.apple.com.

Files and sharing

Where are my captures stored?

Saved files go to the destination you choose. With history enabled, NeraSnap also keeps local history and previews within your retention settings. Clearing history does not delete exported files or files in Google Drive.

How are files named?

Set a file name template in settings. It can include the date, time, a counter and the name of the app and window you captured, such as a browser tab title. The title is read on your Mac when the capture starts and is used only for the file name.

Do I need Google Drive?

No. Capture, editing, copy and save work without Google. To use Drive, connect your account in settings; uploads go to the “NeraSnap Uploads” folder. Enable public link sharing only if anyone with the link should see the file.

Does disconnecting Drive delete uploaded files?

No. Disconnecting removes the local connection only. Delete files or change sharing in Google Drive, and revoke access in your Google Account if needed.
